When first receiving the brief I had big intentions of expanding my
skills learnt in the previous weekly briefs, I'd really enjoyed working
with illustration and type as image and this is something I really want
to expand on. In this weeks session we had to put together a series of
artboards explaining our idea and intentions for the brief as seen on my
design context blog. From the feedback received I think some of the
ideas I'm trying to tackle are a bit in depth, Since then I've been
reverting back to some of the previous briefs and sticking to a similar
style of illustration and concept I have re-written my intentions. I
want to go down more of the type as image route, looking at hand drawn
typefaces, a more illustrative approach. Working in a range of media.
Brief : Type as image, exploring a range of media and styles of illustration to produce a considered and appropriate typeface in relation to current trends and media.
Considerations: Imagery must be appropriate and subject matter must be linked, what media am I going to use?
Practical considerations: Outcomes will need to be consistent in style and recognizable as a collection.
Background: This is a development of a 2 of the previous briefs, I want to develop my illustration skills that really got me inspired in the book brief and my knowledge of working with type as image from the second brief.
Mandatory Requirements:Typefaces must all be consistent, in order to work as a family.
Deliverable's:A set of 3 typefaces, Made using three different types of media. A publication to explain the story behind each one and how it looks in action.
Rationale:
Brief : Type as image, exploring a range of media and styles of illustration to produce a considered and appropriate typeface in relation to current trends and media.
Who: The auidience will be, fans of experimental typography, people from an art and design related practice or background. I also think the sort of work I'm aiming to produce would be something aimed at a ffffound.com and tumblr.com crowd.
What they will respond to: They will respond to the typeface as a whole. How the characters work together to create a typeface but individually as a visual outcome.
Research:
Research into illustrators.
Type as image, stocks. etc.
