InDesign Induction

Badabadaboooom! Today we completed our first Indesign tutorial to help us to understand working with layout digitally in practise for our new brief. Below are a few screenshots/notes i made in the session to remind me how to use it in the future.

Notes

Pica- 12 points in a pica, 6 picas in an inch.

Set the page size to the size of the image you are going to produce.

Use “Facing Pages” when you are creating a document such as a book or booklet.

Every piece of content in Indesign needs to be fitted inside a frame or box.

Importing Images-Photoshop;

            File Format – TIFF
                                   PSD
Don’t use JPEGS when importing into Indesign.

            Colour Mode- CMYK
                                       Greyscale

Resolution – 300dpi

Actual Size – 3mm minimum bleed

Importing Images- Illustrator;

            File Format – Ai

            Colour Mode- CMYK

When saving always save in user work then remove with a memory stick up some form of backup.  Put all the images you are working with in the same folder due to working with large groups of files.

We learnt how to insert images into the program, work with colour palettes/swatches, setting up layouts and working with print. I like how easy Indesign is to pick up in relation to other Adobe Programs and I'll look forward to completing my other sessions.
